IEEE IUS 2020: Virtual Event
IEEE IUS 2020 - Now a Virtual-Only Event
The safety and well-being of our participants is our priority. With the continued resurgence of COVID-19 within the State of Nevada, in particular Las Vegas, along with the city’s prohibiting large or even moderately-sized public gatherings, it makes it an impossibility to hold the in-person event as originally planned.
The organizing committee is moving 2020 IEEE IUS to a fully virtual conference which will take place September 6 - 11, 2020.
This format allows us to still come together to learn, idea-share, and gain insight into the latest innovations within the ultrasonics field, and ensures that the current landscape does not hinder anyone’s ability to participate. Please consult the website for most of the details and logistics of the virtual meeting, and check back frequently for updates as arrangements are finalized.
Information for Authors of Accepted Papers
All presenters should have received details on how to prepare either a video presentation or an ePoster. More details will be announced shortly regarding the specifics of the virtual lecture and poster sessions.
Registration Information
IUS 2020 registration is open for your virtual conference participation. Individuals who previously completed their registration at the in-person rate will be transferred to the virtual rate and will receive a refund for the fee differential in the coming weeks. Please visit the IUS website for more details and to register.
Travel Cancellation
Please review any previously confirmed travel, and proceed with contacting those providers for cancellation policies. You may want to consider the following advice:
- Flights: Many airlines are waiving the change fee on Non-Refundable Fare tickets provided you bought a ticket within a certain time window. Many airlines are also offering refunds if travel is cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please check whether your preferred airline has enacted such policies.
- Hotels: If you have made a hotel reservation, please contact the hotel or booking agent directly to cancel as soon as possible to avoid any fees.
Exhibitors and Patrons
We are still offering opportunities for virtual exhibit and patron participation! Visit our website for more details and pricing.

IEEE IUS 2020: Registration Is Open
Registration is Now Open!
The IEEE IUS 2020 Conference is still scheduled to be held as planned, beginning September 7th. The conference will be in a hybrid format, with a strong online presence. We have options for onsite and virtual registration available, both at a discounted cost.
The safety and well-being of all conference participants is our priority. We will continue to monitor official travel advisories related to COVID-19 and update the event website to keep you informed.
The organizing committee is working hard to make sure that not only will there be excellent methods of communicating your technical presentation whether in-person or virtually, there will be a wide range of online interaction and socialization sessions providing delegates with plentiful opportunities for participation regardless of the method of attendance.
In particular, we want to provide assurance that no online participant should worry they will receive a lesser experience if they do not travel due to visa, institutional, health, or personal choice reasons. There will be a substantial discount to our usual registration fees for online attendance, and changes between physical presence and online-only registration will be possible up to the first day of the conference at no penalty.
We hope you’re as excited as we are at this opportunity to explore new ways of interacting with our community. We truly expect that the legacy of this event will lead to improved accessibility in our Symposium’s future and we warmly welcome your support and enthusiasm.

IEEE IUS 2020: Important Author Information
Thank you for submitting your work to IEEE IUS 2020! We know that this year will be an adjustment due to our transition to a hybrid event, which includes a strong online presence, and would like to take this opportunity to provide information about key dates and deadlines and instructional support.
Lecture Talks
We are requesting that lecture presenters provide an MP4 video file ahead of their allotted talk slot, to be hosted on the CONFlux virtual platform from September 6 to September 30. Your talk will remain available for the duration of the conference and throughout the whole of September to be viewed by conference delegates. We would also like to host your talks longer term on our UFFC YouTube Channel. You may opt in or out of this second option when you confirm your consent for us to upload your talk video.
View instructions on how to prepare your video here: https://2020.ieee-ius.org/general/presentation-instructions.
The video of your talk must be uploaded by the submission deadline on AUGUST 7, 2020. An upload link will be sent out in the next few days to the presenting author. We will also ask you to provide the presenter’s headshot and biography. You will also have the option to include a copy of your slides if you are interested.
During the conference the oral session where your talk is scheduled will be hosted within a Zoom session. The videos will be played back and the authors will need to join for a live Q&A session hosted by the session chair. It is an IEEE requirement that all authors must defend their work for inclusion within the proceedings. The final program will be posted online soon.
Posters
We will be sending out invitations to ‘Learning Toolbox for ePosters’ platform in the coming days. This platform will allow you to build an ePoster with interactive and multimedia material. A Learning Toolbox ePoster can contain many different rich resources such as videos, images, audio, apps, presentations, twitter and links to interactive online resources. To encourage full use of the features available to disseminate your work we will be awarding prizes for the most effective ePosters and will be welcoming your feedback with a view to including this format in future conferences.
We will request that you go into the system and START your ePoster by AUGUST 7, 2020. You will need to COMPLETE your ePoster by AUGUST 28, 2020. Please stay tuned for further instructions this week.
We will be hosting Zoom Poster Q&A sessions for presenters to join – the dates/times assigned will be announced soon.
Proceedings Papers
The final paper submission deadline has been extended to September 7, 2020. There will be no further extensions after that date.
Copyright
We will request that both lecture and poster presenters complete this copyright requirement – this will be asked upon submission to the CONFlux platform:
I confirm that I am the author of this content (or authorized by all authors) and have legal ownership of the copyright. I grant IEEE a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, non-transferable, revocable-at-will license to said material, with the conditions that the IEEE will appropriately and clearly credit the work and will not edit the material in any substantial way.
Two exclusive choices:
-The license shall be valid until revoked
-The license shall be valid until 30th September 2020

IEEE IUS 2020: Important Update
Dear Colleagues,
International Ultrasonics Symposium 7-11th September 2020
The IEEE IUS 2020 Conference is still scheduled to be held as planned, beginning September 7th. However, with travel uncertainty across the globe we anticipate that in-person attendance is not going to be possible for everyone. As a result, and for the first time, IUS will include an online component in coordination with the in-person conference.
This means that all of our technical sessions will be accessible whether you’re attending in-person or online. Details of our Plenary talk, ‘Advanced LIGO: When Black Holes Collide’ by David B. Tanner and all of our invited speakers can be found on our website. Meanwhile the Technical Program Committees are close to finalizing an excellent Technical Program following a record number of received abstracts, and our Industry Exhibitors are preparing their online and in-person exhibits.
The organizing committee is working hard to make sure that not only will there be excellent methods of communicating your technical presentation whether in-person or virtually, there will be a wide range of online interaction and socialization sessions providing delegates with plentiful opportunities for participation regardless of the method of attendance.
For the best overall attendee experience in an online setting, we will be using CONFlux from Conference Catalysts as our primary portal and delivery mechanism for video. To ensure a rich experience for poster presenters, ePosters from Kubify will deliver content through the CONFlux portal. The ePosters format has extensive options for video, audio and data which will enhance author – audience engagement. Information and support on utilizing these tools will be made available shortly. We look forward to seeing how our attendees use these new delivery mechanisms, and will be instituting a prize for the most innovative use of the medium.
Throughout all of our planning the safety and well-being of all conference participants have been our priority. We continue to monitor official travel advisories related to the coronavirus and you will find our updates on the event website. We also encourage you to follow our Twitter updates using the handle @IEEEIUS2020.
We hope you’re as excited as we are at this opportunity to explore new ways of interacting with our community. We truly expect that the legacy of this event will lead to improved accessibility in our Symposium’s future and we warmly welcome your support and enthusiasm.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please email us for further details using the contact form on our website.
